Vocal Coach, Acting Teacher & Career Mentor
The Journey Is Finding the Words that the Student Can Hear
Aaron Hunt is a firm believer that the task of the teacher is to tap into a language that speaks to the individual student, to match the vocabulary of curriculum to the student’s moment in their training and in their life. As great a challenge as this can be in private tutoring, teaching in a group situation makes this an even headier exchange between teacher and pupils. Yet surely the responsibilities inherent in the passing along of knowledge in a calculated and kind manner are matched by the rewards, and those for whom this equation has no resonance might pursue other interests.

High School Instruction
Theater & playwriting for ESL Students
Theatre & Playwriting for ESL Students; The Global Voices Initiative at Kelly High School, Chicago
In Winter of 2017, 2018, and 2020 I worked with High School ESL students at various levels, helping them to exercise and polish their reading, speaking and writing skills through the use of acting exercises and the construction of scenes. My students’ first languages were primarily Spanish and Chinese, and these groups were intermingled. The acting exercises helped to bring these often shy students out of themselves. Basic writing coursework included exploration of setting, character, plot, and dialogue. Students wrote in groups, and shared their work aloud with the class. Each spring the student’s scenes were shared with an ESL High School class in Morocco. The students then performed each other’s scenes over Google HangOuts, and enjoyed a freestyle group exchange afterwards.
